DC53 steel is a new general purpose cold work die and mold steel whose strength and toughness approach those of high-speed steels. DC53 steel, is an improvement over alloy tool steel D2 specified in Standard (JIS) G4404. It eliminates the disadvantages of insufficient hardness and toughness, resulting from high-temperature.

Forging
Slowly and uniformly Heat the DC53 tool steel to 700°C (1292°F),then rapidly heat the DC53 steel to 900-1040°C(1652-1904°F). After forging slowly cool down.
Quenching
Heat slowly the DC53 tool steel to 850°C(1562°F), Soak thoroughly at the temperature. the brought up to 1030°C(1886°F)oil quenching or air cool.
Tempering
The DC53 steel hardness will not change much at the time of tempering at the temperature of 100-500℃. At the condition of 200℃ tempering, the hardness and impact toughness will be higher. In the tempering of 400-500℃, the hardness also be higher, but the toughness will get down sharply. The hardness can be up to 62-63HRC, during the 520-530℃ tempering, and the toughness is double of Cr12MoV. Tempering at the 600℃, the impact toughness also is high, but the toughness get down as the same, the average hardness just 52.4HRC. So the temperature of tempering should not be high.
Annealing
Normal DC53 annealing condition delivery, hardness 255HB MAX. When finished the DC53 Steel tool, then can heat treatment to appropriate hardness.
It is used for making stepped punch and press-punching dies, concrete sprayer parts, rotor plates swaging dies and backers, dies for cold forging, thread-rolling circular dies, piercing punch, thread-rolling dies for heat-treated bolts, forming dies, stripper plates for lead frame blanking, gauges, screws for injection molding machines and plastic molds as well.
